Where are all my fall lovers at?! This time of year really is the best. The weather is still great, the colours of mother nature really shine, and the cooler mornings feel refreshing.
And when the seasons change, we tend to want to change up our homes. Refreshing your space for fall isn’t going out and buying all the pumpkin things possible (although if you love that stuff, then go for it as your home should make you happy!). When I update my home for fall, I think about elements that are timeless and will elevate my space. Think warmer tones, lots of texture, and cozy textiles.
Here are a few quick ways to make your home cozy for the upcoming fall season:
Mix up your pillow covers
Pillow covers are hands down the easiest way to freshen up your space. Switch out the lighter coloured covers for rich and moody hues, or woven covers to really up the cozy factor.
I tend to keep my pillows quite neutral throughout the year, so simply just swapping out one or two covers will update your space with minimal effort.
Layer in the cozy throws
Cooler nights and mornings mean its time to bring out the warmer throw blankets. I love curling up on my couch with these Barefoot Dreams Blankets (I snag one almost every year at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale) – they honestly are the best. So good actually, that Aria will often take one from me, and demand I use a different blanket.
Woven, chunky throws add tons of texture to a space, and are another one of my favourite items to add back into our living space
Switch out your florals
Dried florals are having a huge moment right now. The warm, neutral colour of dried florals make them an easy neutral to add to your space. They are also a nice change from classic greenery.
If dried florals are not your thing, opt for fresh eucalyptus (love it all year round!) or fresh florals in deep jewel hues.
And for my faux stem fans (hey, I use them all the time) the same rule applies – go for rich, moody stems. Pink and purple stems are a big fall trend this year. I love these muted pink ones and these mixed green/purple stems.
Moody Prints
Switching out to more moodier prints is an easy way to incorporate a touch of fall into your home. I love Juniper Print shop, Collection Prints and BFF Print Shop – they all offer digital downloads to print on your own, or you can order some print sizes directly through them.
Print shops are an affordable way to refresh your artwork.
Scents for the final touch
Our sense of smell is the strongest of all senses and scents prompt memories in our brains. From candles to diffusers, there are plenty of ways to bring scent into your house. The key is to not to overdo it. Again, smell is the strongest scent and you don’t want to ruin your best autumn life with overbearing fall smells.
If you are a candle lover, opt for soy or a more naturally made candle to avoid any toxins and for a sustainable choice. If you have kids though, a candle may not make sense and a diffuser will be safer for small hands. Diffusers are also amazing as you can constantly switch out the scents.
I hope you are going to be living your best autumn life this season!
