Project Reveal: Cozy in Marda Loop Living Room

Today, I am thrilled to reveal one of my first completed designs! The #cozyinMardaLoop project is absolutely beautiful. This living room is cozy, feminine and bright. And it is a great example of how switching out your furniture can make an impact on a space.

Time for a refresh.

This mama of one, wanted a refresh in her living room to brighten it up and for it to reflect more of her personal style. She wanted the mood of the room to feel classy, feminine and inviting. We also needed to find kid-friendly furnishings, and a space for all the toys. This client also has a western background (and a gorgeous family ranch), and loves the outdoors. And I wanted to incorporate both of those interests into my design.

Everything was up for replacement, except for her new rug she purchased just prior to starting this project.  She was very open to any and all suggestions and trusted me whole-heartedly to create a beautiful and functional space for her. It was so much fun working with her, and I am so happy she loves her refreshed space!

The New Living Space

The previous couches were dark grey and a bit on the bulky side. I chose this light grey couch from Article for its kid-friendly fabric to be the focus of the living room. It has clean, modern lines, but is also high on the comfort scale. I paired the couch with this beautiful aqua accent chair to reflect her love of the outdoors and bring a pop of colour into the room. The chair is deep and comfy, and doubles as a cozy spot to snuggle up to read a book.

Sourcing this coffee table was a bit of an adventure. The original coffee table I ordered was cancelled by the manufacturer (#covidprobs), but I lucked out and found this new coffee table in a very similar style. I wanted a wood trunk style coffee table that works for additional storage, and that was durable enough for her toddler to play on. This new version of the coffee table features rounded corners (Hello kid friendly!), and the trunk style plays up the rustic vibe.

Toy storage was another issue in this space. Previously toys were just in open bins beside the fireplace. I suggested a trunk style toy bin to add texture, but also contain the toys. I also added plants into this design to help bring the outdoors in. The cute little tree beside the accent chair fills in the empty space, and draws your eyes to the corner.

My overall goal of this space was to make it feel inviting, bright and modern. The clean lines on the couch and chair add a modern touch, and connect the living space to the adjacent kitchen and dining areas. The pops of pink with the pillows play off the multicoloured rug, and make the space feel delicate, while the wood accents add that rustic and masculine edge. I am beyond thrilled with how this space turned out. To see the original design for this space, check out this blog post
