Living room cane chairs

Latest E-design: Warm, modern boho living room

This latest design is SO beautiful. It came together perfectly, and I think it’s going to be a space that my clients will love for years to come. They moved into this home in the fall, and decided now was the time to finish the space. Their house is beautiful, and features a gorgeous all white Spanish style fireplace that is to die for in the heart of their living room. The kitchen has exposed stone, and wood beams, and the entire space is so warm and inviting, that I wanted to carry that into the living room.

The couches and the rug were the only items I was working around. To break up the warm wood tones, I added in black accents throughout. Black grounds a space and provides a focal point for your eye. Some people may be scared to add in black, thinking it’s too dark, but in a space like this where they get great light, and have light wood tones, its one of my favourite colours to add to a neutral palette.

All the design details.

My clients have a bonus room upstairs, that acts as their TV zone, and this main floor living room they wanted it to be a place that they can hang out with family and friends. I switched their couch layout to have the two couches facing each other to encourage conversation, and added in these beautiful cane chairs. This helps lead your eye directly to that beautiful fireplace as the focal point in the room.

On the fireplace wall, I added in texture with these amazing boho palm grass fans. They are something you don’t normally see as wall decor, and knowing this clients aesthetic – I knew she would love them! On the other side, I chose oversized black and white prints in a black frame to break up all the white in the room. I think they compliment each other perfectly!

Now, let’s talk about this black cabinet!! We had originally discussed if it would fit in the space beside the fireplace, but since their fireplace is pretty close to flush with the wall, they would not work. The good news – they had a space between their windows and where their dining table is that it DID fit! It is my favourite piece of furniture we added (well I also love the cane chairs…and palm grass fans…OK…I love it all!). It’s functional, has a bit of old-world charm, and style with the arched top.

The dark gray ottoman-coffee table combo is great for their young kids – no sharp edges, and durable material for those dirty little hands. The dark ottoman also helps ground the space.

For finishing touches, I added in some textured pillows to add in more boho vibes, and mixed classic decor with modern to keep it interesting. Pampas grass is my favourite accessory to add these days… and how good does it look in that woven vase?! And last but not least, there are some floor baskets to contain kids toys, both in trunk form and for under the side table for added functionality of the space.

I cannot wait to share this space with you in person! It’s going to be stunning!
