I have just returned from my first ever Hight Point Market, and have finally processed all my takeaways. If you have never heard of High Point Market, it’s a large furniture trade show that brings the latest trends in furnishings, lighting and accessories. It only happens twice a year – once in the spring and once in the fall, and brings in over 75,000 designers, architects and buyers into town! It’s an amazing event and I learned so much from it and met some amazing designers (including my favourite – Amber Lewis!).
It was an amazing experience, and I am full of inspiration and information. And I am going to share a few of those learnings with you today.. Here are the top trends I noticed at Market:
1. Natural + Woven Elements
Framed textiles were huge at market (and oh so beautiful on a wall!), and chunky fabrics on ottomans were another trend. Many of the lighting fixtures featured natural woven materials, and wavy shapes. I loved all the textured mirrors as well for an easy way to add warmth and interest to a space.
2. Soft Transitions: Curvy Lines
Curves are still happening everywhere from lighting, to accent chairs to decor. Curvy lines are a refreshing alternative to traditional straight lines and help soften up a space. Our brains are naturally drawn to circular forms as they are associated with safety and calm. Curves also add a sense of playfulness to a room, making them a perfect addition to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
3. Nature-Inspired Color Palettes
We are still loving the sense of tranquility in our homes and connecting that to nature and the outdoors. Green tones are still going strong, but we’re also seeing terracottas and midnight blues being brought into this nature colour palette. Pair any of these colors with wood or stone accents and you have a perfectly serene and calm space. My two favourite showrooms were Verellen and Four Hands. And from the photos below you can see why. They were full of earthy tones, and nature-inspired textures.
4. Art Deco Vibes
Touches of Art Deco are back in a modern way. Think geometric shapes, bright colours and brass. It leans into a bit of glamour, but isn’t as overdone as it was in the past. An easy way to add it into your home is with a statement art piece or a more glam coffee table like the brass one below.
5. Oversized Lamps....and lots of little mini lamps!
Lighting was one of my favourite things to check out in person at High Point. There were lots of oversized lamps that truly make a statement in a room. But I also noticed a lot of little mini table lamps – perfect for the kitchen counter or on a shelf. The little lamps are also coming with rechargeable LED bulbs, meaning they are cordless and can be placed on shelves or other places where an outlet isn’t close.
6. Stone Accents
Stone accents were everywhere. From marble accessories to stone top coffee tables and dining chairs – stone was a top trend.
And those are my takeaways from High Point Market 2023! With any trends, you don’t need to follow them or incorporate all of them at once. remember it’s your home and you should add in the pieces that make you happy!
Cheers!
