Casa Marce: Kid Bathroom Remodel

As you know, we’ve been wanting to renovate a few of our bathrooms. The bathroom renovations were originally scheduled to happen in December, but #supplychainissues hit our plumbing hardware, so we are waiting for those to arrive before we start.

We love our home, but certain aspects have been in need of an upgrade – starting with the bathrooms! Each bedroom has their own ensuite, which is going to be amazing when the kids are older, but they were all builder-grade and needed a little more life added to them.

I’ve been wanting to share design details with you, so let’s start with our daughter’s bathroom renovation plans.

The Plan

Aria’s bathroom features a walk-in shower, a toilet and vanity, and the layout is great as it is. We are going to just update the tile, flooring, paint/stain the vanity and replace the countertops. We are going to try and reuse as much as we can to keep our costs down (and be mindful of the impact on landfills).  With that said, we are hoping to refinish the vanity in warm, wood tone, and convert the cabinet to drawers for better storage.  A fresh coat of paint, and new decor will complete her little sanctuary.

The Design

Vanity

Vanities provide both form and function, and help bring in some warmth into typical colder feeling spaces like bathrooms. The right piece can also be the focal point in these small rooms. For this bathroom, we are going to convert the cabinet to drawers, and change the colour to a warm medium wood.

Plumbing Fixtures

Plumbing fixtures are the one item you should splurge on to ensure quality and longevity. You will be using them everyday and want them to hold up. They also set the tone of the bathroom – I like polished nickel for a classic feel with some warmth. Polished nickel is also a metal that is easy to mix with – you can go with black or brass and it will look amazing.

Mirrors + Hardware

The vanity mirror and hardware should complement the room. They are also pieces that can help add in an element of style to the space. To complement the polished nickel, I went with brass hardware and a brass vintage style mirror. Her bathroom will also have these pretty bathroom accessories in a brass tone.

Lighting

Lighting is the most important aspect of a bathroom. These rooms tend to be small, and dark so you need to choose something that provides ample lighting. We chose a classic, brass 2 light sconce above the mirror.
