Nurseries are one of my favourite spaces to design. And they can also be one of the hardest spaces for parents to design. Nurseries are special spaces and here is a quick guide to help you design the nursery of your dreams.
1. Start with the Crib
The crib is the focal point in the room, so it makes sense that this is the first item you should pick out. Many cribs convert into toddler beds, and that is something you should also consider for longevity of the piece. The style of the crib will also help set the stage for the room’s style.

2. Pick your Colour Palette
Finding a piece that you love can be a great source for your colour palette; for example, a cushion cover, a rug, a blanket or even wallpaper.
Start by pulling colours from this piece until you find a combination you like – this technique should ensure you have something cohesive. If your item is more neutral, and you want to add some colour, pick 1-2 accent colours.

3. Don’t go overboard with themes.
You can add in little touches of a theme here and there, but don’t make the entire room a theme. Avoiding themes helps with longevity and will help the room grow with your baby. Use artwork or accessories to add in those items.

4. Accessorize
Accessories are where you can truly make a statement in the room. You can decorate with stuffed animals, blocks, plants (baby safe ones or faux!) and photo frames. You can also get some cute baskets or shelving to double up your storage space.
5. Create Zones
Nursery layouts must consider a spot for sleeping, changing and nursing/feeding for them to be functional. Consider the layout of the room and dedicate spots to these functions. Draw it out on graph paper to help you visualize where items should go and make the most sense for flow.
And there you have it a few tips to get you started on the sweetest space in your home! You can view the Dreamy Edgemont or the Serene Nursery projects for more inspiration.
