Happy Friday! I hope you had a great first week of 2021. All week I have been working on styling and re-decorating the home office, and I am excited to finally reveal the space to you! And since we’ve been in our spaces so much the last 10 months, a little refresh can make you feel like you are somewhere new! Still not exactly a true vacation… but at least a change of scenery. ha.
1. Invest in a new rug.
It’s amazing how much changing out your rugs can transform a space. Rugs have a special ability to add warmth and definition to a room. They are a simple way to add interest while changing up a space at the same time.
The old rug in here was a rug we had at the old house. We brought it over here when we moved and it found its home in our office. It was way too large for this space, and our desk chair didn’t roll nicely on it. It was one of those things we lived with since we didn’t spend much time in this room until the past year. So, as we continued to get frustrated with the lack of rolling of our office chair… I made it my mission to find the perfect rug to replace it.
The rug I found is part of the Chris Loves Julia Collaboration with Loloi, and I ordered it from LD Shoppe (one of my favourites!!). And this rug is BEAUTIFUL. It’s so soft, and I love the moody, but vibrant, colours of it. It also pairs so well with our wall colour (Dulux – Zeppelin). The best part though… my office chair now rolls with ease.
2. Change up your art.
Art is another easy way to revitalize a room. It can add interest to boring walls. And as our eyes get used to a space, sometimes art blends in and we don’t notice it anymore. And we want to notice it! You know why? Because it’s good for our stress levels. I read an article on this topic just a few days ago. So, get yourself some art and let your mind feel the inspiration and calm it can bring.
Again, my old art was brought over from my old office space (seeing a theme here? ha ha). The space between our bookcases is SO large. And combined with high ceilings it looked awkward. But better awkward than bare, right? Well, that’s what I keep telling myself. This new art is beautiful. It fills in the space, while also tying in with the rug’s moodiness. The gold texture adds an element of glam and interest.
3. Beautify your bookcase shelves
Shop your home for decor pieces to update your shelves with. I pulled every piece of decor I had in my home, and brought it the office space. Everything was fair game for my shelves.
Unlike my rug and art…. I actually didn’t mind my original shelf styling of the bookcase. But again, adding in a few new pieces or just re-arranging the shelves makes it all feel brand new.
The only items I purchased was this white vase and this wood vase from West Elm, the white ceramic bowl (Homesense) which I added greenery I already owned, and the wood boxes (Homesense). I also purchased the lamp from Homesense (they are killing it recently with decor options!).
4. Organize!
Our home offices can become dumping grounds for mail, and odd household items that don’t have a home. A cluttered space is never going to look good. Clean out any documents that can be. shredded or filed, and find homes for all those random objects that may have accumulated in the space. Once your office is clean and clutter-free it will look 1000x better!
So, those are my quick and easy tips to update your office space! If you are still feeling uninspired or lost on where to begin with a space – let’s chat. I’d love to help you re-style a space :)
